The popular streaming content platform has sent congratulations to Tampico, Mexico, on their “Martian Day” celebration. The event took place on October 29 in the southern area of Tampico, which is promoting UFO tourism.
According to the Government of Ciudad Madero, the city will be hosting a Martian Day event as part of an initiative to promote extraterrestrial-themed tourism. The event was held at Miramar Beach, which has been associated with alleged UFO sightings and even has a local urban legend about an alien base that protects the area from hurricanes.
Netflix took to social media to congratulate Tampico on their special day. On its Facebook account, the platform posted a meme featuring the alien from the movie “Paul” (2011), accompanied by a message: “The Martians in Tampico are waiting for you to join them in celebrating their day.”
The post read: “It’s today! Happy Martian Day, Tampico!” It has since garnered over 1,000 reactions and been shared 300 times. Users from Buenos Aires were quick to respond with comments such as “Thanks, dude!” and invitations for Netflix staff to visit the region.
One enthusiastic user even responded with a spaceship-themed comment: “I’m going in my spaceship.” The event marks the first time Tampico has celebrated Martian Day, which is an unofficial holiday.
It’s worth noting that Tampico, Miramar Beach, and their alleged UFOs will be featured in a documentary series called “The Extraterrestrial Enigma,” premiering on Netflix on November 8. This is not the first time Netflix has referenced Tampico on its social media accounts; in 2022, they made a comment about a house in Tampico with an “upside-down” style decoration, alluding to the popular series Stranger Things.
