In an effort to strengthen tourism in the northern region of Baja California Sur, the Air Routes Committee recently met with the Mexico City Airport Group to discuss the opening of new air routes that encourage the arrival of national and international tourists to the municipalities of Comondú, Loreto and Mulegé.
The state’s Secretary of Tourism and Economy, Maribel Collins, reported that this initiative seeks to generate economic and social benefits for the area.
Collins stressed that air connectivity is essential for tourism growth, as Baja California Sur exceeded 4.5 million passengers in its three airports during 2023, thanks to the joint work with tourism promotion trusts and associations of service providers.
In addition, she highlighted that the state is a pioneer in the creation of route committees, which allow authorities and businessmen to make joint decisions on the most convenient alternatives for the region.
The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to promote sustainable and responsible tourism, balancing development with environmental preservation and respecting local traditions.
Mayors Edith Aguilar and Paz Ochoa Amador, representatives of Comondú, and directors of the Loreto International Airport and FITUES were present at the committee session, who supported efforts to improve connectivity and attract more investment to the region.
