The Congress of the State of Baja California Sur unanimously approved an exhortation directed to Profepa (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) and Semarnat (Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources), as well as to security authorities and the City Council of Los Cabos, to guarantee free access to the beaches of the municipality.

The measure responds to complaints from residents about Grupo Vidanta hotel concessionaires that block or condition access to these public spaces.

In this regard, Congressman Omar Torres Orozco, promoter of this proposal, highlighted the need to apply section 154 of the General Law of National Assets, which imposes sanctions of up to 1.3 million pesos on those who obstruct the passage.

In addition, he mentioned that the state Penal Code establishes three to seven years of prison.

The Congress reiterated its commitment to sustainable development and the defense of the rights of the community to freely enjoy the beaches.
