The 2024 edition of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival has been temporarily suspended, as confirmed by members of the organizing committee to Reportur.
This festival, one of the most traditional and highly recognized cultural events in the Riviera Maya, has entered a restructuring process after 20 years. The organizers assure that this suspension is temporary.
The festival faced challenges after the death of Fernando Toussaint, who directed it until 2017. Since then, it has struggled to find an operator capable of maintaining the high-quality program. For many years, the festival was led by Darío Flota Ocampo, who served as director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ) and currently holds the position of Secretary of Tourism Promotion in Yucatán.
The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival quickly gained prestige due to the quality of its lineups, featuring artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire. At its peak, the festival attracted more than 50,000 people to Mamitas Beach.
Last year, in its 20th edition, the festival was held at Playa Fundadores and drew both national and international visitors who enjoyed the music in a beautiful setting.
The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival had established itself as one of the top 10 jazz festivals worldwide.
