Water for Guanajuato will become a reality during the current six-year term with the materialization of the ‘Solís Aqueduct’, one of the 16 strategic projects 2024-2030 of the National Water Plan that President Claudia Sheinbaum presented from the “Mañanera del Pueblo”.
The Solís-León Aqueduct will carry water from the Solís dam, in the municipality of Acámbaro, to five municipalities in the industrial corridor, including the city of León.
Regarding the technical specifications, the aqueduct, with a length of 140 kilometers, will have the capacity to transport 4,000 liters of water per second, benefiting more than 1.2 million inhabitants.
In this context, the National Water Plan has as its main objective to make water a human right and a national asset. This plan is based on four fundamental axes:
This ambitious project not only promises to satisfy the growing demand for water in the industrial corridor of Guanajuato, but also to reinforce economic development and guarantee the availability of water resources in a key region for the country. It also seeks to establish a balance between industrial use, urban supply and the conservation of local ecosystems.
With initiatives such as the Solís Aqueduct, the government reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development, aligning itself with international strategies to combat the water crisis and promote equitable access to water. This effort will be essential to face the climatic and population challenges that will mark the future of the state and Mexico in the coming years.
