On November 19, a video began to circulate on social media that captured the moment when a young man, identified as Irvin “N,” attacked a man with a knife on the streets of the area known as Zona Romántica in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
According to reports from people who identified themselves as relatives of the victim, the victim died shortly after due to the stabbing, which occurred near Lázaro Cárdenas Park.
“We are looking for any information about this person who took the life of a family member today in Puerto Vallarta, near Lázaro Cárdenas Park,” can be read in a post shared via social media in groups of residents, with the intention of locating the suspect.
According to data from the National Registry of Arrests (RND), Irvin “N” was arrested that same night outside the Tropicus Hotel in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, a couple of blocks from where the attack occurred.
At the time of his arrest, Irvin “N” —recognized as a young foreigner, of still unknown nationality— was wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts, and white socks. After securing him, the Municipal Police officers transferred him to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Parque Las Palmas.
How did the attack occur?
The widely disseminated material on social media, lasting just 46 seconds, shows Irvin “N” and the victim —whose identity remains under protection— on the streets of Puerto Vallarta.
Apparently, there was an interaction that led Irvin “N” to confront the man. As he approached, the young man shouted a couple of words that were imperceptible and, later, he walked away from the man, who remained motionless.
Seconds later, the victim continued on his way, apparently to leave the scene, but Irvin “N” began to threaten to attack him with an object he was carrying in his hand —possibly the sharp weapon—.
Moments later, the young man aggressively approaches the man and, after some pulling, injures him on the left side of the torso.
“He stabbed him,” the person in charge of recording the events can be heard saying. After injuring the man, Irvin “N” fled on foot, while the victim pressed his side in an apparent attempt to stop the bleeding.
The attack occurred in full view of several tourists and residents. Throughout the 46 seconds that the video lasts, several pedestrians are visible passing by a few meters from those involved, without anyone trying to stop them or alert the authorities.
