Minimum wage in Mexico for 2025: This is how the increase will be next year

Mexican workers are waiting for the increase in the minimum wage in 2025, an announcement that should be made in the coming weeks. However, the president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, has already spoken about it. Below we give you the details.

What has the president said?

The head of state referred to the issue of the minimum wage in her press conference on October 3, in which she recalled her proposal to reach 2.5 basic baskets by the end of her term and which requires an increase in the minimum wage of close to 12% per year.

“Let us sit down with businessmen and workers’ representatives, and continue to increase the minimum wage, our goal is for each minimum wage to reach 2.5 basic baskets, now it is at 1.6. We are working on it with economists so that it does not impact inflation. That would mean a salary increase of around 12% next year and so on every year,” said Sheinbaum.

The National Commission on Minimum Wages (Conasami) is the body in charge of reporting on the increase in the minimum wage for 2025. However, the declaration of constitutionality has not yet been issued.

On October 9, the Senate approved in general and particular terms with 124 votes in favor the reform to article 123 of the Constitution to order that general and professional minimum wages not be below inflation. This reform is one of the 20 that Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented as president.

What would the minimum wage be in 2025?

It is currently 248.93 pesos per day and 374.89 pesos per day for the Free Zone of the Northern Border, so a 12% increase would represent an increase of 29.87 pesos and 44.98 pesos, respectively.

If published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), the minimum wage for next year would be 278.80 pesos per day and in the Free Zone of the Northern Border it would be 419.87 pesos per day. However, this amount requires the approval of employers and workers.
