Attack at ‘Dbar’ nightclub was due to dispute between CJNG and La Barredora, Tabasco prosecutor confirms

Authorities in Tabasco said that the armed attack that was perpetrated in the nightclub ‘Dbar’ in the early hours of Sunday is related to the dispute between two criminal organizations: the Jalisco Nuevo Generación Cartel (CJNG) and La Barredora.

This was confirmed by the prosecutor of Tabasco, José Barajas Mejía, in a press conference held on Monday morning, in which the first advances of the investigation into this attack that left six people dead and ten injured were announced.

Initially, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) had reported that the attack in the nightclub (located in the municipality of Villahermosa) was an attack directed against a particular person, who was not identified. In that sense, it was ruled out that it was an act linked to organized crime groups.

“As a result of the first investigations, it was established that this was an attack directed at a person, and that these events are not related to organized crime,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

However, on Monday morning, prosecutor Barajas Mejía was questioned about what happened at the Dbar nightclub and acknowledged that the information previously shared was not entirely accurate. He said that on the afternoon of Sunday, November 24, he visited the nightclub to verify the situation.

In the company of elements of the Public Security Secretariat, the authorities had access to the videos of the surveillance cameras that were inside the establishment. This is how they learned of the entry of at least seven people between 11:25 p.m. on Saturday (November 24) and 3:45 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the prosecutor, of those seven people, two entered the club through the back at 3:30 a.m., minutes before the armed attack was perpetrated. Based on the information gathered, Barajas Mejía linked these events with La Barredora and the CJNG (an organization he identified as “the four letters”).

“All of this makes us assume that these events do correspond to the dispute between criminal organizations (…) They are what remains of the split of the criminal organization La Barreda with the other organization that is identified with the four letters”

Despite this, the prosecutor of Tabasco recognized that in the Dbar case there were innocent people who lost their lives, such as the young Juan Manuel de la Cruz Ramírez, singer of the group Estilo Del Rancho, who was in the nightclub.

Other identified victims are Carlos Antonio Falconi (student of Mechatronics Engineering and baseball player), Jesús Manuel Ramón Colorado (graduate of the Mechatronics degree) and Erick Urbina (lawyer).

Regarding the ten civilians who were injured, the state governor, Javier May, assured that they are stable and out of danger. He also warned that there will be a regulation of the hours of nightclubs located in Tabasco to have greater control and surveillance in this type of establishment.

One day after the incident, no one has been arrested for the armed attack.
