Nearly half of women aged 15 or older in Campeche have experienced some form of abuse, according to the National Survey on the Dynamics of Relationships in Homes (ENDIREH) 2021. The survey revealed that 49.1 percent of women have faced psychological violence, while 45.3 percent have been victims of sexual violence, underscoring the urgent need for safer spaces in the state.
Call for Effective Strategies
Ana Alicia Mex Soberanis, Secretary of Inclusion (SEIN), emphasized the necessity of implementing more effective strategies to transform cultural and social patterns in Campeche. She highlighted that SEIN, established on January 1, 2022, promotes public policies aimed at gender equity across the state’s 13 municipalities. In this context, SEIN has signed an agreement with the Institute of Statistical, Geographic and Cadastral Information (Infocam) to create the State Gender Indicator System (SINGE).
State Gender Indicator System (SINGE)
The SINGE will provide key information on violence against women, enabling the design of actions and public policies tailored to the realities of the female population. This system aims to make visible the different types of violence women face, strengthening the commitment to gender equality and marking a significant step towards a more inclusive and violence-free state.
Addressing Violence in Dating
As part of the ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence,’ SEIN hosted a presentation on ‘Violence in Dating’ by psychologist Silvia Fierros García. The session aimed to help youth identify warning signs in relationships and emphasized the importance of building healthy bonds based on respect, equality, and communication. The presentation highlighted the need to prevent violence from the early stages of a relationship, fostering a critical perspective in young people to reject patterns of control and abuse.
