The man arrested in flagrante delicto for animal abuse in the city of San Francisco de Campeche could be sentenced to two to four years in prison.
This civilian allegedly had a dog tied up with a rope, which was being dragged by his motorcycle, reported the prosecutor specializing in crimes against animals, the environment and ecosystems of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Alexandro Brown Gantús.
This arrest constitutes the first in flagrante delicto for animal abuse in the entity. Currently, the investigation file is being put together, which will be brought before the control judge.
It was the neighbors of the Minas neighborhood, on Limonita Street, who reported the incident through the emergency number 911.
They detained the man until the arrival of the elements of the State Preventive Police (PEP), who testified to having observed the individual, on board his motorcycle, dragging the animal, which was tied up with a rope.
“The complainants contacted a server, and were given instructions to be able to carry out the flagrancy.”
“In this way, the citizens managed to carry out a civil arrest until the arrival of the police patrols, along with the K9 elements, to put the person responsible at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office. The detainee is already in custody,” Brown Gantús explained.
The dog remains under the protection of the Prosecutor’s Office and is being treated by a veterinarian, who is carrying out the corresponding medical report, which will be attached to the investigation file.
In Campeche, the fine for animal abuse ranges between 12 thousand and 22 thousand pesos.
However, when the animal’s life is put at risk, as occurred in this case, the prison sentence can vary between two and four years.
