On the morning of Tuesday, November 26, residents of the municipality of Villahermosa, in Tabasco, were surprised after realizing that a man fell into one of the lakes in the area and was devoured by a crocodile in full view of several people.
The attack occurred in the Vasi Cencali of the well-known Laguna de las Ilusiones where apparently the boy had fallen accidentally and did not have time to swim to the shore to get to safety since it is known that in this part of the city there is a large community of these animals.
According to local media, the reptile was approximately 2 meters long, a length that it used to hunt its prey, take it to a deep area of the lagoon and drown it to eat it. They even highlighted that there were other specimens that approached the place to try to steal the prey.
A call for help to the authorities
Upon realizing what had happened, the man’s family quickly asked for help hoping that their loved one could get out of the pond. Despite attempts to rescue him alive, personnel from Civil Protection of Tabasco, officers of the National Guard and even members of the Army began the work to recover the body.
During the operation, a boat was used which would have scared the crocodile and, although it tried in different ways to take its prey, the presence of the rescuers made it abandon the body, this opportunity was taken advantage of by the emergency services to deliver the man to his relatives.
After they were able to recover the victim, a young man appeared in the area of the incident claiming that it was his brother, a 29-year-old man identified by the name of Ernesto. According to his description, he was dedicated to cleaning windshields at the intersections of Villahermosa, a job that he shared with other members of his family.
He stressed that he was from an indigenous community located in the municipality of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, but decided to leave his state to look for employment opportunities in Tabasco.
After what happened, the case will be taken by the State Attorney General’s Office who supported to expedite the work on the site and take the man to the unit of the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).
This event generated indignation among the neighbors of the area who affirm that the crocodiles have become a real risk for people who approach the lagoon, mainly for minors and adults who cannot defend themselves from the attack.
