Morelos investigates links between public servants and organized crime

In the event that councilors or other public servants of Morelos are involved with organized crime, an investigation will be carried out and action will be taken in accordance with the law, said Miguel Ángel Urrutia Lozano, head of security in Morelos.

When questioned about the “Enjambre” operation, carried out in the State of Mexico and where mayors and directors of public security were arrested accused of facilitating the operation of criminal groups, Urrutia Lozano said that work is being done and there will be no room for impunity.

“All persons against whom there are complaints will be subjected to the corresponding legal channels. This includes that, if any municipal president could be involved with a criminal group, the necessary investigations will be carried out. I believe that the message from our president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, is clear: zero impunity, something that is endorsed by Governor Margarita González Saravia,” said Urrutia Lozano.

Regarding possible links between mayors or police chiefs and criminal groups, he said: “At the first sign of this situation, an investigation will be carried out. Operations are in progress, and time will give us answers.”

The official said that similar investigations are being carried out in Morelos to identify or rule out this problem, but he assured that there will be results from actions that are being carried out right now.

Violent start to the week in Morelos: Three people murdered
“Until today, the ‘Enjambre’ operation in the State of Mexico is not foreign to us. In the south of the state of Morelos we have operations underway to combat the crime of extortion related to the Familia Michoacana. These investigations are advancing and in the next few days there will be results. They have already been seen in Temoac, and I believe that the complaints from citizens and from various actors are fundamental. That is why we are involving the municipal presidents,” he added.

The most recent case is that of Andrea Angelina “N”, treasurer of Temoac, who was linked to a trial for crimes against health.

On another topic, Urrutia Lozano reported that in recent days 19 people have been arrested (17 men and two women), who were linked to proceedings for serious crimes such as illegal deprivation of liberty, aggravated extortion, possession of vehicles of illicit origin, violation of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives, as well as crimes against health in the form of drug dealing. All the detained people received preventive detention as a precautionary measure.

Reinforcement of the C5 and security bases
The official acknowledged that the state’s C5 is obsolete, with a delay of at least 12 years, and noted that they are working on updating it.

In addition, he announced that to reinforce security, the establishment of bases of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) in Cuautla and in the southern area of Morelos has been proposed, with the objective of having a faster response to emergencies.

Control exams for security officials
Urrutia also stressed that those in charge of security in the municipalities must have control and confidence exams, and assured that no official who does not meet this requirement will be ratified.
