Quintana Roo Senator Eugenio Segura to Lead Senate Tourism Commission

Senator Eugenio “Gino” Segura from Quintana Roo has been appointed as the new president of the Tourism Commission in the Senate of the Republic, following an agreement by the political coordination board. Segura emphasized his commitment to working closely with President Claudia Sheinbaum and Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama to develop public policies, legal reforms, and strategies to enhance tourism in Mexico—a vital sector for the national economy, foreign currency collection, and regional development.

“I am grateful for this great opportunity. We will recognize and empower the workers in the tourism sector who generate great results. Count on my commitment to promote a new successful tourism model, which is already working in Quintana Roo and generates shared prosperity,” Segura stated.

He added that the Commission’s senators will aim to harmonize federal, state, and municipal legislation on tourism to meet the goals and objectives of the tourism sector program, aligned with the national development plan.

“In Quintana Roo, the doors are open to millions of visitors, and we will continue to lay the foundations for Governor Mara Lezama’s leadership to promote growth and remain an economic benchmark with a clear vision of tourism at the national level,” Segura said.

Segura highlighted the importance of creating initiatives for sustainable, cultural, and community tourism, protecting Mexico’s natural and cultural resources, and promoting the inclusion of indigenous and rural communities in tourism activities.

“We will promote fiscal and financial incentives to strengthen tourism infrastructure, collaborating with state and municipal governments, as well as the private sector, to guarantee the integration of efforts in favor of tourism. It is clear that tourism is the driving force of transformation,” he added.

Segura’s appointment comes at a crucial time, where synergy between the public and private sectors will be key to maximizing the economic and social impact of tourism across Mexico.

This week, during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning conference, an agreement was signed for the creation of the Regional Economic Development and Business Relocation Council (CADERR). The council includes representatives from the government, academia, business associations, and entrepreneurs, with José Chapur, president of the Palace Resorts hotel group, being a notable member.
