The Welfare delegate, Mayra Chávez, revealed that she has had communication with the staff of the National Migration Institute to address the issue of the construction of a shelter for migrants in the municipality of Ahumada, which will be one of the largest in the north of the country.
The federal official specified that the project involves using the facilities of the former checkpoint located at kilometer 300 of the Chihuahua to Ciudad Juárez highway.
The Federal Government requested the Municipal Presidency of Ahumada to donate a large plot of land for the construction of a shelter for migrants, which will depend directly on the Government of the Republic.
The mayor of Ahumada, Iván Rodelo, explained that the request was made last week so they are about to define the surface that will be assigned, in addition to preparing a project proposal in the next few days. “The Federation will take care of everything,” he said.
The mayor added that the information he was given is that it will be a large shelter, so they are still defining the surface area that the municipality has for this project.
“They asked us to check if we have municipal surface area for this project and if we do, we are checking what it will be and we want to present a project,” he said.
In this regard, Mayra Chávez specified that the shelter is being planned in the former gatehouse, which is at kilometer 300 of the Pan-American Highway and the land they are asking the municipality for is in case more surface area is needed around it.
