French Tourist Killed in Trailer Collision on Tulum-Cobá Highway

A tragic accident on the Tulum-Cobá state highway resulted in the death of a French tourist, Constance “N”, aged 29. The incident occurred near kilometer 10 when the vehicle she was traveling in was hit by a trailer. Constance, who was seated in the back of the car, died instantly from the impact.

The crash was reported to emergency services via 911, prompting paramedics from Salud y Vida and Civil Protection personnel to respond. Unfortunately, they found that Constance no longer showed vital signs. Traffic agents, Investigative Police, and Forensic Services were subsequently notified.

Initial reports indicate that the driver of a white Freightliner trailer from the Tres Guerras parcel delivery company was responsible for the accident. The driver allegedly failed to maintain a safe distance and, while attempting to overtake in a no-passing zone, collided with the grey Renault Stepway vehicle, which had slowed down to enter the Ati’ik cenote.

The impact was so severe that the car was dragged over 50 meters off the road. The area was cordoned off to facilitate the work of Forensic Services, who removed the body. The trailer driver was arrested at the scene to determine responsibility.

Road Safety Concerns

This tragic event underscores the need for increased caution on the roads and the reinforcement of road safety measures. The Tulum-Cobá highway, known for its tourist attractions such as cenotes and nature reserves, has witnessed multiple accidents due to speeding and reckless driving.

Local authorities have reiterated the call for drivers to exercise extreme caution and adhere to speed limits. They emphasized that a single error can have irreparable consequences, as seen in this unfortunate incident that has affected both a family and the tourist community of Tulum.
