Sent by a mission of Baja Californian businessmen, the Economic Development Council of Ensenada presented to investors from the United Arab Emirates a list of products from the region, of interest to that country in southwestern Asia.

Héctor Contreras Luengas, President of Codeen, said that the first meeting was in October, following the visit on the tour of embassies in Mexico City promoted by the ProBaja team, the Ensenada group led by Mario Peregrina, President of the Economic Promotion Commission of Ensenada.

On that occasion, Contreras Luengas said that they met with Salem Rashed Alowais, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Mexico and his commercial team, particularly with officials from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, who even expressed interest in visiting Baja California next February.

This second visit to the embassy, now in commemoration of the 53rd anniversary of the union of the United Arab Emirates, was a reiterated invitation to the ambassador to visit Baja California, particularly Ensenada.

“There was a lot of interest in all agricultural and fishing products, and the ambassador Salem Rashed and his commercial team were also given samples of exotic products from the region, such as abalone, snail and octopus, which there is a lot of interest in learning about and integrating,” said the business leader.

“The interesting thing about Dubai’s population is that it is cosmopolitan, where 87% of the inhabitants of that Emirate are foreigners, this is a very interesting market, very open where they look for top-level products, with high quality and we have that type of products in Baja California,” he added.

The relationship between Mexico and the United Arab Emirates has grown in recent years, in addition to seeking to cooperate in technological innovation, a bilateral relationship that has advanced in areas such as trade, investment, energy and culture.

Mexico is considered a strategic partner to build bridges with Latin America, so both countries have established commitments to follow that path for mutual benefit.

The United Arab Emirates is the main trading partner in the Gulf region and the only country in the area where Mexico has had a comprehensive and privileged partnership since 2023.

Mexico and the United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding on comprehensive cooperation and partnership within the framework of COP 28 in Dubai 2023, with the aim of strengthening political relations and promoting economic, commercial and cultural exchanges.
