The Popocatépetl volcano is still very active, as during the early morning quite revealing images of its activity were captured; in case of ash fall it is expected to affect several entities of the country.
Which states could be affected by the ash of the Popocatépetl volcano?
The General Coordination of Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Management of the State of Puebla indicated that in case the Popocatépetl volcano throws ash, five entities could be affected, which are:
Puebla
Tlaxcala
Edomex
Morelos
Mexico City (CDMX)
In Puebla, the affected areas could be: Atlixco, Angelópolis and Valle Serdán, added Civil Protection.
In the images shared by the account @webcamsdemexico the intense activity of the colossus was observed, which was captured at 04:02 in the morning of this Tuesday, December 3.
In its latest report, the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) stated that, in the last 24 hours, the following were recorded:
“23 low-intensity exhalations, accompanied by water vapor, other volcanic gases and light amounts of ash. The most important of these occurred at 12:56 p.m.”
In addition, 39 minutes of high-frequency, low-amplitude tremor were reported
Also, a continuous emission of water vapor and other volcanic gases was observed that dispersed towards the west-southwest
The Volcanic Alert Traffic Light for Popocatépetl is in Yellow Phase 2
Finally, Cenapred asked citizens not to try to climb “the volcano, because explosions occur that throw incandescent fragments, as has been seen recently. Respect the 12-kilometer exclusion radius from the crater, being within this area is not safe. In case of heavy rain, stay away from the bottom of ravines, due to the danger of mud and debris flows.”
