Last night, Tuesday, in a joint operation carried out by various agencies and security personnel, they closed the bars called “El Mezcal” and “El Agave”, located on the north-west periphery of San Cristóbal de las Casas, due to the lack of licenses and regulatory permits for their operation. They also arrested a male person who was carrying several bags of drugs at the time the uniformed officers entered. Later, he was placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities.
The operation was carried out by Civil Protection personnel, as well as Public Services, with the presence of the inter-institutional group made up of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the State and Municipal Police, who guarded the property during the operation recorded last night Tuesday in the northern area of the city of San Cristóbal. Minutes later, a person accused of crimes against health was arrested.
It is known that a male person was arrested at the bar “El Agave”, who identified himself as Julio César “N”, 32 years old, originally from the municipality of Tenejapa. When he was arrested, 60 nylon bags containing fragments of a substance with characteristics similar to crystal and 27 bags with white powder, presumably cocaine, were found on him. Therefore, the uniformed officers transferred him to the facilities of the Public Ministry of the Altos district, where he was placed at the disposal of this instance for crimes against health. It will be this authority that determines his legal situation.
Due to the lack of documentation required in accordance with the legality of operations, the activities of selling alcoholic beverages in this bar were suspended. Likewise, the bar “El Mezcal” was also closed due to the lack of the corresponding documentation. The operation responded to the constant complaints of the neighbors, who pointed out that in the bars of the northern zone there have been scandals and even gunshots. The uniformed officers therefore proceeded to investigate, and last night the bars were closed down.
