The United States Embassy in Mexico, headed by Ken Salazar, shared on December 4 a list of seven Mexican drug traffickers for whom the State Department is offering a reward of millions of dollars. Here we inform you who they are.

Through a statement titled “Commitment of the United States to weaken transnational cartels,” the diplomatic headquarters based in Mexico City reported on Wednesday that there are currently at least 30 rewards within the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP) for drug cartel leaders.

The list includes bosses whose location remains unknown and also names of criminals who are awaiting extradition, such as the case of the leaders of Los Zetas, the brothers Miguel Ángel (‘El Z-40’) and Óscar Omar (‘Z-42’) Treviño Morales; who have been detained since 2013 and 2015, respectively, and have not been handed over to the US.

It is noteworthy that, in total, the NRP has offered 142 million dollars for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Mexican drug traffickers. Among the names are:

Rafael Caro Quintero, co-founder of the Guadalajara Cartel

‘El Narco de Narcos’, as he is also known, is currently being held in the Federal Social Readaptation Center (CEFERESO) No. 1, ‘El Altiplano’. He is wanted by the US for the torture and murder of Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena, an agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

This is the Mexican drug lord for whom the northern neighbor has offered the most money: 20 million dollars.

The co-founder of the Guadalajara Cartel is being held in ‘El Altiplano’.

The Guzmán Salazar brothers, leaders of Los Chapitos
They are Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, sons of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán from the first marriage, who are accused of being the leaders of Los Chapitos.

Each of them is being offered 10 million dollars.

Aureliano Guzmán Loera, alias ‘El Guano’

The brother of ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, identified as the leader of the ‘Los Guanos’ faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, is also wanted by the US. A reward of 5 million dollars is being offered for him.

Ruperto Salgueiro Nevárez, ‘El Batman’

A 46-year-old man identified by the US as a partner of the Guzmán Loera brothers and the Sinaloa Cartel. He is accused of distributing marijuana, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine, for which they are offering 5 million dollars for information about him.

State Department offers $5 million for him

Leader of an independent criminal organization that has been engaged in the production and distribution of methamphetamine, marijuana and heroin since 2007, according to the State Department. He is also being offered $5 million.

Juan Reyes Mejía González, ‘El R1′

The alleged leader of Los Rojos, of the Gulf Cartel, is accused of facilitating drug shipments between cocaine supply sources in Central and South America and transshipment operations in Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa, Tamaulipas. His reward is $5 million.

Reward for ‘El Mencho’ increased

The information from the US diplomatic headquarters was released a few hours after the State Department reported an increase in the reward offered for Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

This is an increase of 5 million dollars, so the northern neighbor is now offering 15 million dollars for ‘El Mencho’; a little more than 300 million Mexican pesos, according to the current exchange rate.

“We are committed to dismantling transnational criminal organizations to protect the health, safety and well-being of people. These types of actions allow us to advance in our shared security,” concluded the US Embassy.
