Juan Carlos Arreguín, technical secretary of the municipality of Querétaro, clarified that, so far, a tolerance zone for sex work has not been established in the state capital. In this regard, he stressed that no sex worker has permission to operate permanently within the city.
The municipal government continues to implement operations to inhibit the presence of sex workers in various areas of the municipality. Recently, workers were invited not to remain in the Alameda Hidalgo, to which they responded positively, leaving the area. In addition, surveillance has been intensified in the perimeter of San Francisquito to prevent them from settling in that sector.
Arreguín mentioned that, in total, 13 sex workers were removed from the Alameda Hidalgo and have stopped offering their services in that area. However, he acknowledged that there are other areas where there has been a tolerated presence, such as Río Ayutla and Papanoa, although none of these have been officially declared as a tolerance zone. The technical secretary stressed that the difference with the case of San Francisquito lies in the complaints received from the neighbors, which has motivated the intervention of the authority.
On the other hand, in the areas of Río Ayutla and Papanoa, there have been no complaints from the community, which has allowed a certain tolerance in these areas. Although the authority has adopted a flexible position in some sectors, Arreguín reiterated that there is no officially recognized tolerance zone for sex work in the municipality of Querétaro.
