Journalist Adriano Bachega Olvera was shot dead in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon while driving on a main avenue on the border between Monterrey and San Pedro Garza Garcia.

This case adds to the violence experienced by journalists in the Latin American country, although he was not originally from the country, but from Argentina, but worked in Mexican territory. He was the editor in chief of the portal Diario Digital Online and also a consultant and lecturer on business issues.

Bachega was driving his electric car when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and several armed men fired at him. The vehicle was almost in the middle of the median and, although several people approached to try to help its driver, they could do nothing, since the bullet wounds in his head caused his death immediately.

These events generated a strong security deployment, and experts found several spent shells between 10 and 12 meters away from Bachega’s car, according to media such as the newspaper El Financiero.

Adriano Bachega was 53 years old and had dual nationality: Argentine and naturalized Mexican. In addition to being a journalist, he was passionate about innovation and knowledge; through his lectures he guided his clients to the success of their businesses and projects, according to Aristegui Noticias.

Propuesta Cívica, a non-governmental organization (NGO) demanded a prompt response from the authorities to thoroughly investigate the journalist’s murder. It also requested immediate protection for his family.

This murder shocked all of San Pedro, a municipality known for being quite safe.

Last Sunday, another journalist, Victoria García Álvarez, was shot, but this time in the municipality of Montemorelos, a citrus-growing region of Nuevo León.

García Álvarez had just covered a Christmas tree lighting event when the attack was recorded. Despite the seriousness of the events, no one was arrested.
