Amid murders, cartels and forced displacement, Eduardo Ramírez takes office as governor of Chiapas

This Sunday, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar was sworn in as governor of Chiapas before the state Congress, after six years of the Morena government headed by Rutilio Escandón.

Various political actors from Morena were present at the ceremony, such as Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, head of the Navy, Luisa María Alcalde, national leader of Morena, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, the ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, among other federal officials and governors from all over the Republic.

Ramírez Aguilar will have to solve the problems in terms of Security, since since 2021, antagonistic cartels have been disputing control of the territory for the crossing of drugs and the thousands of migrants who try to reach the United States and have to cross through our country to reach the northern country.

The armed conflicts between the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel have caused a social crisis in some communities in Chiapas; They have left hundreds of residents forced to flee their livelihood and belongings behind, and some have even sought refuge in Guatemala. Not to mention the reports of extortion to which they are subjected and forced recruitment by organized crime fighting for the territory.

An example of the scourge of violence in Chiapas is what happened in Pantelhó, where for several days armed clashes were reported between the self-defense group “El Machete” and the Indigenous Civil Army, after the former tried to reach the municipal capital to demand the dismissal of the Municipal Council because they allegedly maintain links with organized crime.

For this reason, Eduardo Ramírez promised that peace will return to the entire state from the Jungle to the Highlands of Chiapas, and to achieve this he announced the creation of a new security force made up of “very well paid” police officers with the best equipment.

“Today I want it to be heard in every corner of Chiapas, in every corner, in the jungle, in the north, in the border region, in the Frailesca region, on the coast, in Soconusco, in the highlands, in Cuxtepeques, in the central region, peace will reign again on our roads, peace will return to the roads of Chiapas. (…) We are going to create the immediate reaction group “Pakal” which will be made up of a team of special police officers who will have a very good salary,” promised Eduardo Ramírez.

He also announced that all the high commands of the Security agencies will be replaced and that same day he will swear in the new officials.
