Just a few days before the start of the December holiday season, the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo federal highway is in terrible condition for traffic, a situation that puts vacationers and locals from municipalities in the Costa Grande region of Guerrero at risk.
The lack of maintenance of the asphalt by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) has turned this communication route into a “death trap” that has caused damage to vehicles that travel on this road as well as car accidents.
Traveling on this federal highway, in addition to being a danger due to the potholes, has also caused delays in travel times as a consequence of the poor condition of the asphalt.
The highway sections of Coyuca de Benítez, San Jerónimo, Tecpan, Papanoa and Petatlán are the most affected by the deterioration of the potholes and where vehicles have damaged tires, rims, suspensions and chassis when they fall into them.
Mr. Roberto, owner of a tire shop located on the federal highway near the municipality of Petatlán, commented that the poor condition of the road has left the tires and even the rims that drivers have useless.
Due to the insecurity problems in the Costa Grande region, tire shops have closed at nightfall and are not available 24 hours a day in case of an emergency.
Tire shops located in the Costa Grande region are only open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Users of the aforementioned federal highway called on the corresponding authorities to carry out repairs in order to avoid incidents that endanger the lives of tourists and locals.
It is worth mentioning that multiple accidents have been recorded in the area due to the poor conditions of the federal highway, where tourists arrive at the resorts on the state’s main coast during vacation periods.
