The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Hidalgo sentenced Cristian Emanuel “N” to four years in prison this Friday, November 8, for murdering “Jefazo” on August 5 in the municipality of Mineral de la Reforma.

The Specialized Unit for the Investigation of Crimes Committed against Animals filed the corresponding complaint against the subject, whom the judicial authority found responsible for having killed the pitbull dog with a machete, causing injuries to his body that caused his death.

The hearing was held this Friday in room 6 of the Criminal Control and Oral Trial Courts of Pachuca, in which a conviction of 4 years in prison was determined, in addition to a fine of 13 thousand 571 pesos, the realization of a public apology and 8 thousand 970 pesos for veterinary expenses in favor of the activist Vannia Castillo, who provided medical attention and rescued the dog after the attack.

In response to the sentence, Castillo spoke out on social media after demanding justice for Jefazo from the moment of his rescue.

“Your life was not taken in vain, your life today set a precedent for animal welfare. Today there is justice for you, and for all the animals whose lives were cowardly taken away. Thank you Jefazo for your life, thank you for teaching us that we can together raise our voices for you and assert your rights. We love you, and from here I tell you, with my heart in my hand, that your case did not go unpunished,” he wrote on social media.

How was Jefazo murdered?

On August 5, Jefazo was attacked with a machete after entering a home located in the municipality of Mineral de la Reforma, in the state of Hidalgo. The man who assaulted him excused himself by saying that the dog had injured one of his rabbits, so he left the dog on the street while it bled to death.

After being seriously injured, the dog was taken care of by a man who stayed with him until activist Vannia Castillo rescued him to provide him with emergency medical care.

According to Castillo, the dog was abandoned by his owners, so as he had no food he entered one of the nearby homes to get food, however, he was attacked with a machete which caused his death hours later.

“Jefazo” was injured with a machete by a man who claimed that the canine hurt one of his rabbits. The wound was so deep that the dog died after being treated.

Jefazo was seriously injured in the spine by Cristian Emanuel “N”, which prevented him from moving the back of his body.

After hours of receiving medical attention and remaining in surgery, Jefazo fell into a coma, which is why he died some time later. Castillo reported that the veterinarians tried to revive him in several attempts, but the dog did not respond.

In the state of Hidalgo, animal abuse is punishable, as established by the State Penal Code. In the event that the injuries caused to the animal result in its death, as in the case of Jefazo, it states that 1 to 4 years of prison and a fine of 50 to 200 units of measurement of update (UMA) will be imposed, which will increase the punishment by up to half when, in the commission of the crime, methods are used that cause suffering to the animal prior to its death and prolong its agony.
