Among the projects that were presented to be part of the Participatory Budget (PP), one of those that had a lot of support from the people of Durango was the construction of an Animal Adoption Center, next to the CAAN.
The proposal for the adoption of pets over extermination, was promoted by different animal protection associations and independent rescuers, and was widely accepted by the people, and came in first place in the sixth district.
“It is the first time that something like this has happened, but it is only the beginning and a sign that people do think about animals and that the authorities can allocate a budget to these causes,” said councilor Verónica Terrones Romero.
They hope that the work will be one of the first projects to be developed between January and February of next year, because there is already a place next to the CAAN.
The college of veterinarians joined the project, so a large sterilization campaign for dogs and cats is planned.
“As long as pets that roam the streets are not sterilized, we will not achieve it. We are outnumbered by the reproduction of the animals, we are outnumbered by the puppies that are thrown in the trash or the puppies that are thrown into the canals.”
ANIMAL CARE
During the Christmas and New Year season, animal protectors are calling for gunpowder not to be detonated because it causes a lot of harm to pets.
“People who are detonating gunpowder in the streets can be put in jail because it is an administrative offense,” he said.
Gunpowder is being sold everywhere, but small species can be protected.
