With various attractions for tourism in Durango, producing a spectacular weekend is a real possibility and suitable for any season.
For this reason, the Durango Tourism Secretariat launched its most recent initiative to attract visitors: Produce your weekend in Durango.
This campaign seeks to position the state as a versatile and accessible destination, ideal for enjoying unique experiences that range from the tranquility of nature to the vibrant cultural and cinematic legacy that characterizes the state.
In an exclusive interview, Elisa Haro, Durango Tourism Secretary, shared details about this strategy that promises to attract both national and international tourists, highlighting the richness and diversity of the state’s tourist offerings.
What does tourism offer in Durango?
“What we are looking for is to encourage regional tourism. The reality is that it is an excellent time right now in these months to visit our state,” said Elisa Haro.
The offer for tourism in Durango is wide and diverse, as the state has ecotourism centers that include luxury hotels, spas in the mountains, rustic cabins and camping areas, perfect for those looking for an experience in contact with nature.
For adventurers, Durango offers activities such as canyoning, rappelling, zip lines, hiking, kayaking in its lakes, bird and stargazing, as well as culinary workshops.
These experiences allow you to enjoy the natural environment in activities that are, according to Elisa Haro, “100% family-friendly and for all tastes.”
Where does tourism in Durango come from?
Tourism in Durango has a regional character. “80% arrives by road; that is why we also promote this La Laguna campaign in the capital city itself, so that they can go on a weekend to do tourism,” explained Secretary Haro.
The main sources of tourists are neighboring states such as Coahuila, Sinaloa and Chihuahua, as well as Jalisco, Nuevo León and Mexico City.
As for international tourism, the influx of the Mexican-American market stands out, made up of countrymen and descendants of generations who maintain a cultural link with the state.
Produce your weekend in Durango
With the Produce your weekend in Durango campaign, the state Tourism Secretariat seeks to highlight that the entity is consolidating itself in four key segments: cultural tourism, ecotourism, meeting tourism and film tourism.
In this last area, Durango stands out as a historical jewel.
“This 2024 we celebrate 70 years of filming history, since the arrival of the first film. More than 200 films and 400 audiovisual projects have been made here.”
On the other hand, the tourist jewel of the state is the Paseo del Viejo Oeste.
“Whoever comes to Durango and does not go to this place, did not come to Durango,” said Secretary Elisa Haro emphatically, highlighting that this old film set is now a unique theme park in the country.
Thus, to ensure the success of the campaign, the Ministry of Tourism implemented a broad promotional strategy.
“We are already making an effort on television, radio, press and social networks. In addition, we have made presentations with travel agencies and media in Mazatlán, Culiacán, Torreón, Saltillo, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Zacatecas,” explained Haro.
In addition, she added that cost is another of the great attractions of Durango, which has both cheap hotels that start at 400 pesos and affordable experiences in museums, such as the Pancho Villa Museum, whose entrance costs just 20 pesos.
Durango is ready to receive visitors from all over and offer them an unforgettable experience, highlighted Secretary Elisa Haro, emphasizing that “Durango is also a very accessible destination, economically speaking” and that it has all the guarantees for a trip that is both safe and unforgettable.
