Sales are beginning to recover: Mazatlán’s restaurant sector hopes to revive

After facing a severe crisis due to the insecurity that has affected Sinaloa in the last three months, the restaurant sector has begun to recover, as demonstrated by the slight increase in sales.

During a press conference held this Monday, members of the National Gastronomic Council of Mazatlán said that this rebound, although minimal, gives them hope of improving during the winter season at the end of this year.

Roberto Osuna Valdez, who recently took office as the new president of Conagam, said that despite the crisis they have faced in recent months, restaurant owners have not let their guard down and continue to look for ways to get ahead, as well as avoid the closure of restaurants.

He stressed that in order to stay current, they have made efforts to train themselves and explore new techniques such as organizing sporting events and using social networks.

“Obviously the month of October affected us a lot, but we have already had about 15 days in which sales have begun to pick up little by little. I can’t say that it’s a big increase, but we are seeing improvements thanks to promotions and because we are reinventing ourselves in many aspects. After December 15, we hope that the situation will improve even more.”

Osuna Valdez said that the sector has placed its hope that, as in previous years, after December 15, there will be a significant increase in the arrival of tourists and consequently also of diners to restaurants, which would normalize the situation.

He explained that to support restaurants in the rural area of the municipality, they have implemented a technique that they call “barter”, which consists of restaurateurs consuming in their own businesses, a strategy that has been very useful to avoid closures.

Finally, Osuna Valdez invited all restaurateurs in Mazatlán who wish to be part of Conagam to come to receive support or information, through the Facebook page: Conagam or visit the facilities located in Canaco Mazatlán.
