At his inauguration, the governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, announced that during his administration the highway that connects San Cristóbal and Palenque will be built, a long-standing demand of the people of Chiapas.
“We are going to build the historic and old demand of what is the Palenque-San Cristóbal de las Casas highway.”
It will have a total of 153 kilometers, and in its first stage from kilometer one to 96, it is estimated that it will be built in two years. This section will be from Palenque to Ocosingo.
This project will be managed purely by the indigenous peoples. It will not be for profit, that is, it will not be managed by a private company. It will be an investment of the State and the Federation.
“With social profitability that benefits the communities themselves and this is what we are going to do, this highway will not be granted to private initiative.”
The toll booths will be managed by the communities, the gas stations, tourist stops, markets and restaurants will belong to the communities. This is in order to provide an economy to the towns that live in poverty.
“Very clear policies where there are communication bridges, with each of the states.”
The infrastructure team, the State Road Commission, will start the work during 2025. With an advance of federal participation obtained this month, the work starts next January.
“For all the economic spillover, the productive value chain, around a work, especially a work as important as a super highway, that the opportunities are given to local companies.”
But there are also projects for the southern border of Chiapas, in industrial matters as a horizon of opportunities, it will be a tax-free zone with the support of the Senate of the Republic and the Congress of the Union.
The “K” line of the train on the Chiapas coast, which is part of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, will be revived after 20 years of being suspended following the passage of Hurricane Stan, which destroyed bridges and roads in 2005.
“The gas that comes from Coatzacoalcos to Ixtepec, there will be a plant to transport it on the K line and it can reach Tapachula and have a gasification network.”
After the announcement by former President of the Republic Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on the nationalization of the railroad tracks, after being privatized in 1998, the rehabilitation of the railroad tracks from the port of Veracruz, passing through the Isthmus of Oaxaca to end in Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, was also reported.
