Starting this Monday, December 16, Baja California Sur becomes the stage for one of nature’s most impressive spectacles: whale watching. This natural phenomenon, which will last until April 2025, attracts those who wish to witness the majesty of these ocean giants up close.
The best places to enjoy this unique experience include Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Chale, Puerto A. López Mateos, Puerto San Carlos, and the San Ignacio and Ojo de Liebre lagoons, known for their abundant gray whale activity.
Last season, the El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve recorded 883 gray whale specimens, with 758 in Laguna Ojo de Liebre and 125 in Laguna San Ignacio. Meanwhile, more than 250 whales were sighted in Puerto Chale, with February being the ideal month to maximize observation opportunities.
The Baja California Sur Tourism Secretariat invites locals and tourists to enjoy this spectacle by hiring boats with official permits, ensuring a responsible and sustainable approach.
This natural spectacle not only provides a deep connection with the marine environment, but also highlights the importance of protecting these species and their habitat.
