The families of Iván Escalante Támez and Roberto Treviño Leos, young men from Chihuahua who have been reported missing in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, since the early hours of Monday, December 16, spoke to El Heraldo de Chihuahua to explain that the version given to them by one of the friends of both boys, who was with them, is that when they left a nightclub called “Nice”, a white van forcibly picked them up and took them away.
According to Diana Leos, mother of Roberto Treviño Leos, they moved to Mazatlán, Sinaloa, once they lost communication with them. This Tuesday afternoon, together with ministerial agents from said entity, they carried out a search in an area known as “Los manglares”, which was the last area where her son’s cell phone made a connection.
“We have not located anything, we only spoke with one of the girls… well, by message; A friend of Ivan with one of the girls who was there and they say that they left the bar, they (Roberto and Ivan) told them to go with them; they told them no, they were leaving and then they put them in a white van and took them away; that is the only thing we know so far,” she said in an interview with El Heraldo de Chihuahua.
Roberto’s mother explained that in a video they found on the social media profile of one of the young men, they appeared in the club called “Nice” with two girls, as well as other young men, so, presumably one of those who appears in the video, was the one who told them that they had been taken by force in a white van.
Another point that the desperate mother addressed was that when she received the news that they had not arrived at the apartment where they were staying, she immediately called the municipal command of Mazatlán, where they informed her that they were not detained, so she proceeded to call 911.
Once she filed the missing person report, the operator asked her if they were in a car, to which Diana replied that they left him in the apartment, so before going to the club, they told her that they would go to the nightclub in a fit of pneumonia.
The last communication they had with both young men was at 3:45 in the morning on Monday, December 16, when they were allegedly paying the bar bill.
In a video she shared on TikTok, Diana calls on the society of Sinaloa and Chihuahua, that if they have any news, let them know. “We beg you please if anyone has them, have mercy on us.”
“Roberto and Ivan, if you are watching this video, we love you and we are waiting for you… your family, your work, your school… Here we are, we will be with you and we will bring you back safe and sound,” said Roberto’s mother in a video she shared on TikTok.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Isabel Tamez, mother of Ivan Escalante Tamez, published a message asking for prayers for him and Roberto Treviño Leos, both originally from Chihuahua and who were last seen in Mazatlan in the early hours of Monday, December 16.
“From the bottom of my heart I ask for a prayer for Ivan and Roberto so that God and the Virgin Mary cover them, protect them, and illuminate the hearts of all the people who surround them today so that they return home, that they return to the side of their entire family, who we are asking for here, searching and moving mountains and everything to bring them back, today a desperate mother is asking you, son, I am coming for you” she quoted in her message.
On her profile, Ivan’s mother has been sharing the investigations of both young men, as well as publications on social networks by other people, where they spread the investigations of both. According to what was narrated by Diana Leo Vega, her 2 sons and a friend, all three originally from Chihuahua, traveled to Mazatlán and stayed at the W Tower, located in Playas Brujas.
Raúl Roberto Treviño Leo, 21 years old and Iván Escalante Támez, 23 years old; left for a nightclub called Nice and stopped having communication via WhatsApp at 02.23 hours with her son.
The young man would have informed her that he was already returning to the apartment on board a “pulmonia”, where the young Andrés Treviño Leo, 17 years old, was waiting for them, but that they no longer heard anything from both. Roberto was wearing a black cap, a black polo shirt, navy blue jeans, and white Gucci tennis shoes. Iván was wearing a white cap with black letters, a light yellow shirt, navy blue pants, and white Armani tennis shoes.
The disappearance of both young men occurs within the framework of the 97 days that the state of Sinaloa has been under fire, or colloquially called “Sinaloa at war,” after the arrest or surrender of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada and one of the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
This has caused the people “los mayos” and “los chapitos” to engage in a war in practically the entire territory of Sinaloa, including cities such as Mazatlán, Culiacán, Los Mochis and Navolato.
