A total of 10 tourists were rescued alive in the waters of the Oaxaca Coast, after the boat ‘Anita 2’ in which they were traveling capsized. The incident occurred approximately 400 miles from Playa Tomatal, in the popular tourist destination of Puerto Escondido. This immediately mobilized local authorities to rescue them.
THE INCIDENT
At 09:10 hours on this day, the municipal authority of San Pedro Mixtepec received an emergency report about the capsizing of the nautical tourism boat. According to the official report, there were 10 tourists on board the boat. They were taking a tour in the area.
Then, given the seriousness of the situation, the rescue protocol was quickly activated with the deployment of a rapid search and rescue boat. Thanks to the prompt intervention and teamwork, the 10 tourists and the crew were rescued alive. They were later taken to dry land with no fatalities reported.
THE RESCUE
On the other hand, the Municipal Civil Protection Unit of San Pedro Mixtepec played a key role in the operation. Its members coordinated the rescue maneuvers and guaranteed the safety of all those involved. Local authorities confirmed that, thanks to the speed of the response, all occupants were safe and are out of danger.
The incident occurred in the context of one of the most popular activities in the region: nautical tours for whale, dolphin and turtle watching, which are offered by local tourist service providers in small boats. Despite what happened, local authorities have reiterated that the destination remains safe for tourists, and that these types of incidents are exceptional.

Finally, the prompt emergency response and inter-institutional coordination saved lives, and although the overturning was a scare, all the occupants of the ‘Anita 2’ are out of danger and in good health. The authorities continue to provide care to those affected and reinforce security protocols to guarantee the safety of tourists on future tours.
