The project that the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) will carry out on the section of the Orizaba-Puebla highway that was affected by the landslide last October includes the construction of a false tunnel, said the local deputy for the Orizaba District, Igor Fidel Rojí López.

In a press conference this afternoon he recalled that, at the end of November, the local deputies of the districts of Zongolica, Dulce María Hernández Tepole; Tania María Cruz Mejía, from Río Blanco and he, from Orizaba, delivered a letter to the President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and asked her to expedite the repair of that section of the highway and, the head of the SICT explained to them how it will be.

He recalled that the commitment is that in the first week of January 2025 one lane of that section of the highway will be free and, in April, the two lanes, with a false tunnel.

He recalled that the official in charge of the work was told about the difficulties faced not only by businessmen to transport their merchandise and products, but also by the population itself that has the need to travel to the center of the country.

“Small vehicles go up the Atzizintla highway, others, through Acultzingo, but the issue is complicated, which has also affected the tourist sector of Orizaba, since it is not receiving the number of visitors that arrived during the season and December holidays,” he said.

Regarding security on both the Atzizintla and Magueyes highways, which travelers go up, he acknowledged that security has been reinforced by the National Guard, and he even said that he has confirmed it because he has traveled on both and has noticed police presence in that area.

So far, he said, he has not received reports of assaults on either of the two communication routes, but he acknowledged that there is fear among citizens when traveling on them.

2025, a difficult election year

On another topic, he referred to 2025 as a difficult election year, due to the process that will be experienced to elect the next municipal authorities. “It will be complicated by the issue of the candidacies, the same campaigns that are in the middle of the year, because in some way it complicates the work of the municipal authorities and the state itself.”

Almost three months after the report of a landslide on the Puebla – Orizaba highway, there is still no exact date to clear the road
He added that there are those who speculate about what could happen regarding the candidacies. “I still do not have a clear decision to say if I will remain as a deputy or participate in some process. This will have to be decided by the citizens of Orizaba, practically.”

He pointed out that to choose the candidates they will have to wait for the times, that is, next April and, he reiterated that he is currently working as a local deputy and has the responsibility of, next week, approving the budgets and being aware of those of the district.

Federal deputy Benito Aguas Atlahua will manage the realization of the executive project for the construction of a new road that connects Orizaba with Zongolica
Regarding the budget that the Pluviosilla could receive, he recalled that it will be next Friday when they will approve in session what they will exercise in 2025. He recalled that Orizaba requested one billion pesos and said that from the federal programs and budget of Branch 028 and 033 this year it exercises 740 million pesos.

“We are working for 820 million, 80 million pesos more. Obviously there is inflation this year, but there is a significant increase. The final figures will be known on Friday night,” he said.

He recalled that Orizaba is the municipality that generates the highest percentage of its own resources, surpassing the port of Veracruz and the state capital itself, Xalapa.
