During the Safe Christmas 2024 operation, State Police agents prevented an attempted fraud committed by people from the State of Mexico. The incident occurred in the city of Durango, when an alleged buyer contacted a seller through Facebook to purchase a 2016 model Jeep Cherokee pickup truck. After agreeing to the sale, the buyer made a fictitious transfer for 250 thousand pesos, which appeared in the seller’s account. However, when he tried to transfer the money to another account, he discovered that the transfer had been canceled.
The affected person, Raúl “M”, 32 years old, resident of the Héctor Mayagoitia neighborhood, noticed the scam and asked for help from the officers who were carrying out surveillance patrols at the Chedraui in the Hipódromo neighborhood. It was at that moment that Mario Arturo, 52 years old, a man hired by a transportation company from the State of Mexico, arrived at the scene to pick up the vehicle. When questioned, Mario Arturo confirmed that he was also a victim of the scam, as he had been hired by the company Grupo Viaducto, located in Iztacalco.

The fraud was stopped thanks to the quick intervention of the police, who verified that both people involved had been deceived. During his intervention, the employee of the transport company said that, when he informed his employer about the situation, he was responded to in a rude and contemptuous manner, telling him that he should not expect help.
Finally, the State Police called on citizens to avoid making transactions of this type through social networks without verifying the legitimacy of the people with whom they are negotiating.
