Norma Idalia “N”, known as “La Italiana” was arrested along with six other alleged members of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel after a confrontation with the armed forces in the community of Jaralillo. She is one of the main operators of Karem Lizbeth “La Señora”, sister of José Antonio Yépez Ortiz “El Marro” and leader of the CSRL.
The operation took place on Friday, December 20, when elements of the Mexican Army and the National Guard (GN) were carrying out a routine patrol in the vicinity of the community of Jaralillo, in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas. During the tour, the authorities detected an alleged clandestine hydrocarbon storage point, an activity linked to fuel theft, known as huachicol, one of the main operations of the CSRL.
Upon noticing the presence of the military elements, the people who were there opened fire on them. In response, security forces repelled the attack, resulting in the capture of Norma Idalia “N” and six accomplices. In addition to the arrests, authorities seized firearms and other objects that will be key to ongoing investigations.
Norma Idalia’s role in the CSRL
Norma Idalia is identified as a key piece in the operational structure of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, which since the capture of José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, alias “El Marro,” in August 2020, has been led by her sister, Karem Lizbeth “La Señora.” Norma Idalia was reportedly in charge of operational logistics, including the distribution of resources from the theft of hydrocarbons, as well as coordinating activities related to violence in the region.
The arrest of “La Italiana” represents a significant blow to the CSRL, an organization that has maintained a strong presence in Guanajuato and surrounding states, especially through fuel theft, extortion and drug trafficking.
Operations against huachicol and organized crime
The capture of Norma Idalia is part of the joint efforts of the Mexican Army and the National Guard to combat criminal activities in the Bajío region. Guanajuato is considered one of the most violent states in the country due to the dispute between the CSRL and the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), which has become the scene of multiple confrontations between law enforcement and members of organized crime.
The detainees, along with the seized material, were made available to the corresponding authorities, who will continue the investigations to dismantle the operational structure of the CSRL and reduce violence in the region.
