Massacre at a wake in San Miguel de Allende leaves three dead and five injured

An armed attack during a wake in the community of Bocas, in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, claimed the lives of three people and left four men and a woman injured.

The events took place on Saturday night when the attacker arrived at the wake, held in a house on the main street of the community. From the gate, he opened fire on those present, presumably with the aim of killing one of the men due to a family dispute that had lasted for years.

It was revealed at the scene that the attacker and the victims had family ties. The person in the wake was the grandfather of the now deceased. The alleged perpetrator, known as “El Rojo”, fled along the highway towards Corral de Piedras after the attack.

The attack left three people dead, identified as Salvador, Jesús and José Álvaro, as well as five minor injuries, including two minors: a 10-year-old boy with a bullet graze and a 17-year-old boy with minor shrapnel wounds.

According to neighbors, these family feuds have been marked by revenge and confrontations between cousins and close relatives that have persisted for years.

The report of the attack generated a massive mobilization of emergency and security forces. Elements of the Citizen Security Secretariat, the National Guard, State Public Security Forces, the Army, Red Cross paramedics and members of the Volunteer Firefighters and the SMA Firefighters and Paramedics arrived at the scene.

The area was cordoned off and guarded until the arrival of the State Attorney General’s Office, which carried out the removal of the bodies and the collection of evidence for their transfer to the Forensic Medical Service.
