Mérida Fest 2024: Over 96 Spectacles to Celebrate the City’s 483rd Anniversary

The Mérida Fest is set to celebrate the city’s 483rd anniversary with a diverse program of activities from January 5 to 26. Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada announced the event, highlighting the union and citizen participation in art and culture.

The festival will feature 199 events across various locations in the city, including the Caucel and Cholul communities. Mayor Patrón Laviada emphasized the importance of bringing culture and arts closer to all citizens.

A committee of art experts selected the program participants through a public call, providing many with the opportunity to showcase their projects. The festival will include guided tours of 34 galleries that successfully participated in the Noche Blanca.

Cultural Offerings

Mérida Fest will host 96 spectacles in 33 venues, with 862 artists and nine invited countries: Brazil, Iran, Japan, Netherlands, Ecuador, Chile, Cuba, Argentina, and Costa Rica. Traditional events such as the Alborada, mass at the Santa Iglesia Catedral, and the 60th anniversary of the Serenata de Santa Lucía will be featured, along with the presentation of the Guty Cárdenas medal to José and Cesár Marrufo.

Special Performances

This edition will include performances by Nortec and Sonora Santanera with María Fernanda. There will also be eight visual arts exhibitions, 17 music shows, five children’s events, eight theater productions, and nine dance and interdisciplinary performances.

Gastronomy and Fashion

The festival will feature a Grand Kermés of Popular Cuisine at El Remate de Paseo de Montejo and a Gala Dinner, supported by the Colectivo de Profesionales Gastronómicos y Turísticos de Yucatán (Cogatuy). Fashion will be represented by a runway show from Guillermo Pérez Alayón, and various artists will conduct workshops and conferences for the artistic community and students.

The festival will pay tribute to notable Yucatecans such as Tere Cazola, Luis Pérez Sabido, the Decanos de los Trovadores, and the presentation of the Pepe Domínguez medal.
