Through social media, an alleged case of extortion by elements of the Municipal Police and the National Guard has been reported, this time having as a victim an Uber driver. In a video, the victim reported having been arrested and robbed of his earnings on two occasions during the same week.
According to the testimony of the complainant, these events occurred before the Christmas holidays, since the driver mentioned in the video that in one of the arrests he told the police officers that he was working to buy his son’s gifts.
“What the municipal police are doing in Los Cabos and what the National Guard is doing is not fair either. This week they have stopped me twice, I am working for Uber and they have taken away what I earn in the day twice. Today I told the National Guard, “help me, lend me a hand, I’m saving for my son’s gifts,” these guys have no heart and here in Los Cabos people, being one of the safest destinations, I’m more afraid of the police, as an Uber driver here in San José del Cabo, I’m more afraid of the National Guard and the Police than of anyone who wants to stop me and rob me,” said the Uber driver.
This case adds to a series of complaints of police abuse that have been revealed through social networks in the southern California region, generating great concern among citizens. So far, local authorities have not issued an official position or a bulletin on the reported events.
