Ambulantes invaden la calle 5 de Mayo

One block from the main square of the city of Puebla and on the eve of the end of the year, where there is a large influx of visitors in the Historic Center of the municipality, street vendors attacked 15 public road elements of the Secretariat of the Interior (SEGOM) of the capital city council. The workers of the municipal department were injured in the head and other parts of the body.

As has been recorded for a few days, the first square of the city looks crowded with informal vendors to offer their products these last days of 2024, and although the people of the Secretariat of the Interior ask them to free some main roads such as 5 de Mayo street, they have not been successful.

Around 5:55 p.m. the public road personnel were doing their route normally and at the height of 5 de Mayo almost on the corner of 2 Poniente, that is, just a few meters from the capital main square, they asked the vendors to leave, according to the videos circulated on social networks.

The most affected businesses are fast food restaurants, cafes, perfumeries and clothing stores, says Red Mexicana de Franquicias

However, the street vendors that are part of the 28 de Octubre, accused the alleged protection charge by some municipal officials, although they did not give specific names and refused to leave the site. The above caused both parties to exchange words. Later, the informal vendors physically assaulted the staff of the capital city hall with sticks and pipes.

According to the photographs of the department, some of the people from the Ministry of the Interior have blows to the head and hands, so they are already being assessed. Likewise, the events are being investigated by the State Attorney General’s Office.

After what happened, some businesses in the area chose to lower their shutters due to the possibility of turning into a major fight. Meanwhile, the people circulating in the area dispersed.

This situation could change the agreements made between informal vendors and the city government, since on previous occasions Francisco Rodríguez Álvarez, head of the Ministry of the Interior, stated that they would expel vendors who did not comply with the agreements.
