Puerto Vallarta is a tourist destination of national importance, but also international. And on the eve of 2025, many are those who take this option to celebrate the New Year, but traveling to the coastal municipality from Guadalajara has a cost for the short route, but there are some routes where this price can be reduced and we will tell you how.
Currently, the Guadalajara – Puerto Vallarta short route has four toll booths that, together, add up to 1,300 pesos for a one-way trip; that is, 2,600 pesos round trip. The tolls are listed as follows:
Toll fees for the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta short route
Toll booth Cost:
1 El Arenal 193 pesos
2 Plan de Barrancas 288 pesos
3 Amado Nervo 193 pesos
4 La Peñita 171 pesos
6 Aeropuerto 455 pesos
But if you want to cut the cost of the toll booths, you can take several shortcuts to save a little.
The first option is to take the detour to Compostela, Nayarit, then continue on Federal Highway 200 and take the curves in the Mesillas area and continue towards Las Varas and then towards Punta Mita, where the road is free; which means reducing two toll booths: La Peñita at 171 pesos and Aeropuerto, the most expensive of all, at 455 pesos. But in Compostela there is one for less than 50 pesos. That is, this trip would cost around 700 pesos.
The second option is to leave after La Peñita, heading towards Cruz de Huanacaxtle. This route would save the airport toll, which costs 455 pesos, but adds the one in Bucerías, which costs 223 pesos. In other words, you basically save only 232 pesos, so the trip would cost 1068 pesos.
Completely FREE to Puerto Vallarta
The third option is to take Federal Highway 15 or the Nogales Highway, at the exit of Guadalajara, just after Aviación Avenue, in the Bajío area. You must follow that road, pass by La Venta del Astillero and take the detour to the free Tepic highway, heading towards Ameca.
Then you continue to a crossroads to continue on Federal Highway 70, which is 171 km long and goes from El Arenal to Mascota; passing through Tala, Buenavista, Los Pocitos, Ameca, Mixtlán, Atenguillo and Mascota.
In the Magical Town, take the state highway 544 Mascota-Las Palmas-Puerto Vallarta; which is a complicated road due to the curves it has and the condition it is in. Finally, it is this last section that will lead to Puerto Vallarta. This route is completely free, although the travel time is double that of the short route.
