Mérida is set to celebrate its 483rd anniversary with the vibrant and diverse “Mérida Fest,” announced municipal president Cecilia Patrón. The festival, running from January 5 to 26, promises a rich program of 199 events across the city, including the Caucel and Cholul police stations.
“We present these three magical weeks that will have 199 events in different parts of the city, including the Caucel and Cholul police stations, because our commitment from day one was to bring culture and the arts to all citizens,” said Patrón.
This free cultural event offers a variety of activities for the whole family. The festival will kick off on January 6 at 8:00 p.m. in Plaza Grande with a performance by the Mérida Chamber Orchestra.
Highlights include the Night Bike Route on January 11 at 6:00 p.m. on Paseo de Montejo, and the play “337 km Mitos” on January 12 at 12:00 p.m. at the “Nina Shestakova” Theater of the Arts. From January 7 to 9, the José Martí Cultural Center will host a series of conferences and the presentation of the book “Crónicas Empresariales” by columnist Gonzalo Navarrete and guests.
The mass for Mérida’s 483rd anniversary will be held on January 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mérida Cathedral. The Callejoneada and Alborada for the anniversary will take place on January 5 starting at 10:00 p.m. in Santa Lucía Park.
Mérida Fest 2025 aims to promote the city’s cultural wealth and history through a variety of activities. The National Storytellers Meeting, featuring guests from the peninsula and various states, will be held on January 9 and 10. The event is free and open to the public, inviting everyone to participate and enjoy the festivities.
