Its impact on the economy in Mexico

Mexican authorities have reiterated that increases to the minimum wage do not have negative effects on inflation. In a statement, the National Commission on Minimum Wages (Conasami) explained that the adjustments made have not impacted companies because the percentage of the additional wage mass is much lower than the growth of the minimum wage in real terms.

Among Sheinbaum’s commitments for the end of her six-year term is to set a minimum wage equivalent to 2.5 basic baskets. However, the increase in the minimum wage announced for 2024 is lower than the increases made by the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. For reference, in 2024 the increase was 20%.
