US residents in San Miguel de Allende vote and fear Trump’s return

US citizens living in the heritage city of San Miguel cast their votes in an office that opened in the Aurora neighborhood. For some, if Trump won, they would prefer not to return to the United States.

According to the municipal offices for foreigners in San Miguel de Allende, there are around 18 thousand foreigners, mainly North Americans. Data from INEGI in 2020 indicate that there are 10 thousand Americans living in San Miguel de Allende. This number represents approximately 10% of the city’s total population.

The majority of US citizens living in San Miguel de Allende are retirees, and they enjoy this city for its hospitality and tranquility, in addition to the fact that they can afford a life of luxury here.

In the offices located in the La Aurora neighborhood, residents of the United States went to be advised on how to vote and send their ballots. Last Friday, November 1, was when they received the last voters, since they indicated that they had to send the votes to the United States to be added to the count on November 5.

The offices of the group “Democrats Abroad” were in charge of providing advice to foreigners residing in San Miguel, in addition to promoting the blue vote for Kamala Harris.

On the social network Democrats Abroad San Miguel de Allende announced that if they were voters from undecided states who have not yet voted, they could contact them to help them, in addition to indicating that “The Democrats must win these states! Especially Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina.”

This Friday they closed the offices at 4:00 in the afternoon to send their votes by parcel to the United States.

Also, on their same social network Facebook, they indicated, “the orange threat is sinking even further into madness, dementia, both… who knows!”.

An American citizen named Christi Stewart commented: “I live in San Miguel for seasons, sometimes I return to the United States to see my family, but now, if Trump were to win I could consider bringing my family to San Miguel or another place in Mexico, since living in the United States would not be a good option.”

John Williams said that he is returning to the United States on Monday, to cast his vote there, although he did not want to say for whom he would vote, he did assure that in these elections They are very important for their country and after that they will have to return to San Miguel for a while, for work.
