Criminal groups earn around 100 million dollars each year by trafficking migrants between the Chihuahua and Texas border, according to an intelligence report.
The above was exposed by the media Milenio, having access to a confidential intelligence report on “trafficking” operations on the Chihuahua border with Texas.
The document indicated that more than 274 thousand migrants passed through this area in the year, so they calculate that with the fees that the traffickers charge the migrants, the total amount is 100 million dollars, which when converted into Mexican pesos is about 2.38 billion.
They say that the “coyotes”, who transport the migrants in crowded vehicles such as trailers, charge between 4 thousand and 10 thousand dollars per person, according to the route, risks and “services.”
Likewise, the document indicates that the trafficking networks take advantage of the desperation of the migrants to increase the rates.
They even suggest that for criminal gangs in the state of Chihuahua, the “business” of human trafficking is even more profitable than drug trafficking.
