A tragic accident occurred on the Mexico-Tuxpan highway when a double-trailer carrying fuel tankers ran over a caravan of motorcyclists. The incident resulted in the deaths of two people and left several others injured.
The accident took place at the toll booth heading to the port of Veracruz. According to survivors, the motorcyclists were traveling in a caravan to Tampico when the driver of the trailer, allegedly having fallen asleep at the wheel, failed to avoid the group and ran them over. The trailer subsequently overturned on the side of the road, causing a fuel spill.
Authorities closed the highway to traffic, and it remained closed for several hours. Rescue units arrived at the scene to assist the injured and awaited the arrival of forensic experts.
