A minor and her father drowned in a pool where they were swimming in the municipality of Totutla, in the state of Veracruz, on Friday, December 27, reported Civil Protection rescuers. The rescue of the bodies lasted for several hours due to the difficulty in accessing the land.

According to what was reported to the authorities, the minor and her father were originally from Mexico City, but had arrived in the state of Veracruz to visit their relatives for the December holidays. After having enjoyed a party the day before, the family decided to go to a pool to swim.

According to witnesses, the girl was walking around the pool and decided to enter without imagining that the depth exceeded her height. Because she did not know how to swim, she began to drown. Her father, upon realizing what was happening, jumped into the water to try to save her, but the currents pulled him to the bottom and he could not get out.

Due to the difficult access to the land, the family was unable to call for help in time. Some neighbors in the area helped the other members of the family, but it was necessary to ask for help from the Civil Protection authorities to rescue the bodies.

During the holiday period for the December holidays, people from various corporations are assigned to monitor the most frequented bodies of water, such as beaches, rivers, streams, lakes, lagoons and some pools; however, there are uncrowded sites that are not covered by permanent surveillance.

The state government and municipal authorities have issued various recommendations to travelers, both from the state of Veracruz and from other entities, to reduce risks during their trips, including requests to avoid entering bodies of water without surveillance or without knowing how to swim.
