Amazon Mexico will open a second distribution center in Guadalajara, Jalisco. It will be inaugurated this year. It will be the size of five soccer fields and have the capacity to store more than 750 thousand items.
This expansion has the main objective of improving delivery times and expanding its coverage throughout the country, the corporate communications department explained to this media.
This project underlines the strategic importance of the state for the company’s logistics operation and its commitment to local economic growth.
“This year, a new Amazon Shipping Center will open in Guadalajara. This would be the second one that the company opens in the state, with an area equivalent to 5.2 professional soccer fields and with the capacity to store almost 750 thousand items of different sizes,” the company reported.
How will the distribution center benefit Guadalajara?
According to the company, the opening of this distribution center represents a significant opportunity for job creation in the region. Amazon highlighted that its employees, both permanent and temporary, will receive comprehensive benefits, such as major medical insurance, dental plan, savings fund and food vouchers, in addition to competitive salaries.
One highlight is the possibility of professional growth within the company. According to data provided, more than 50 percent of temporary jobs in high seasons evolve into full-time positions.
“This reflects Amazon’s commitment to the development of local talent and its positive impact on the community.”
What has been Amazon’s impact in Jalisco?
Jalisco is among the top five states with the highest investment by the company in the country. The company has invested more than 1.6 billion pesos in infrastructure and salaries in the state, which, according to the company, has contributed more than 1.7 billion pesos to Mexico’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
In terms of employment, between 2015 and 2023, Amazon generated more than 700 direct jobs and around a thousand indirect jobs in Jalisco. In addition, the first distribution center has allowed it to efficiently cover the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, as well as regions such as Bajío, Monterrey, Hermosillo, Tijuana and Culiacán.
With more than two and a half million products available, the new distribution center will seek to maintain same-day deliveries for Prime members and meet the growing demand for e-commerce in the country.
This second center, with almost 100 thousand square meters, will consolidate Guadalajara as a strategic hub for Amazon logistics in Mexico. The inauguration not only reaffirms the company’s confidence in the region, but also its commitment to continue investing in infrastructure and in the development of the communities where it operates.
The company also shared that more than 3 thousand independent sellers in the state offer their products on the platform. In addition, it invited the public to stay tuned for the inauguration event, which will be held soon.
