Authorities in Coahuila assured that, in the face of possible mass deportations of migrants, they maintain coordination with the federal government to address the phenomenon and affirmed that the flow through the state has decreased.
Hugo Gutiérrez, Secretary of Security in the state, mentioned that they are worried and busy with the possible deportations once Donald Trump assumes the presidency of the United States.
He mentioned that there are several shelters that are being prepared in coordination with the National Institute of Migration (INM) and they are waiting to see how the Ministry of Welfare will coordinate them.
Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas commented that they sent some requirements to the federal government to address the possible phenomenon of repatriations, although he did not want to go into detail on the preparations, as he said that it will be the federal government that announces it.
The state leader said that the flow of migrants through the state has decreased “considerably,” since while in December 2023 there were thousands of daily crossings, now there are fewer.
Secretary Hugo Gutiérrez said that in January the daily crossings of migrants to the United States range between 120 and 110. He pointed out that the “shielding” of the state, which includes security filters and coordination with the INM, the National Guard and Ferromex, is what has inhibited the passage through Coahuila in recent times.
