The year has begun and vaccines that prevent respiratory diseases such as influenza and covid-19 are the most requested in southern Tamaulipas, which also has to do with rumors of the new Chinese virus and especially the prevention of critical problems such as pneumonia.

Likewise, public schools made the use of face masks mandatory, as was done during the pandemic, for the return to classes starting today.

“The new virus (metapneumovirus) is very likely to have sparked interest because there are people who have been more attentive to getting vaccinated to avoid pneumonia, for example they request the pneumococcus vaccine, which is applied from the age of 65,” said personnel from the vaccination modules.

These immunization points, which are located in the Historic Center, on the Salvador Díaz Mirón pedestrian street, in the Center of Tampico, as well as in two shopping centers in Ciudad Madero, have increased their influx.

It is estimated that “20% increased” in vaccination and it is emphasized “because in December, due to the holiday season, I was a little afraid of the reaction to the vaccine, but at this time there is a lot of influx.”

Those responsible for the modules installed in the Tampico Center detailed that 300 vaccines are finished per day in these first days of January 2025, when in December, due to the rush, citizens did not want to be vaccinated.

The staff of the Mexican Social Security Institute pointed out that last December they had approximately “150 or 200 doses daily and now we apply about 280 or 320 doses, we have had quite a response.”

The interest of the citizens who are trained in the various modules is evident, which all have the same response, because the one located in the Buenos Aires market area, which has between 150 or 200 doses, they finish them all.

The most requested are the pneumococcus, covid-19 and influenza vaccines, says the Health personnel, considering that people of various age ranges are looking for a way to be protected against sudden changes in temperature.

“Yesterday (Monday) we ran out of vaccines, and especially now that we are crossing into 2025 we have been running out. At the Tampico market point we ran out, there they lasted 4 hours, there are 150 or 200 doses,” they reported.
There are more modules located in shopping centers in Ciudad Madero, both on Adolfo López Mateos Boulevard.

Tamaulipas schools ask for face masks to study
Tampico schools are requesting the mandatory use of face masks starting this Wednesday when classes begin after the winter vacation break, a return that in the south of the state will occur with a forecast of temperatures of 12 degrees.

It is the Tamaulipas Health Secretariat and the Education Secretariat that have to give instructions on the obligation to wear a face mask, but it is the parents, teachers and directors who are making the determination.

At the “Juan Escutia” elementary school, which is located in the Solidaridad, Voluntad y Trabajo neighborhood, north of Tampico, parents were informed that the use of face masks was essential for this Wednesday.

“As a preventive measure and in order to safeguard the health of our students, we ask that the following actions be taken starting Wednesday, January 8, 2025”… and point number one is “the mandatory use of face masks to enter the school and inside the classroom.”

The second priority point defined by the teaching staff and parents of this public educational institution is “to carry two extra face masks in the backpack”, the third is focused on that “in case of presenting a temperature of 37º or more, as well as a runny nose, coughing or sneezing, entry will not be permitted”.

Vladimir Castellanos García, a member of the Education Commission, indicated that schools can do this to maintain the health of the elderly and in the face of low temperatures.

“So far, the mandatory use of face masks is not mandatory, but it is a decision that schools can make as an agreement between parents and school principals,” said the official.

He also recalled that the recommendations of the Tamaulipas Health Secretariat during this return to school are focused on guaranteeing the health of minors, since when the thermometer reads less than 5 degrees Celsius, it will be the parents’ decision to take them to school.

For his part, Nicolás Berumen Ávalos, head of the State Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Coepris) in Tampico and Ciudad Madero, indicated that it is necessary to take these measures in view of the increase in respiratory diseases these days, which have increased.

“It is not mandatory at the moment as there is no official determination, but it is necessary in order to prevent respiratory diseases among minors,” said the state official.
