A drug cartel handed out toys and roscas on the occasion of Three Kings’ Day, in a neighborhood in the municipality of Macuspana, 50 kilometers from the Tabasco capital, Villahermosa, and birthplace of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In videos circulating on social media, a large group of people can be seen listening to a man whose face cannot be distinguished.
The anonymous individual told the crowded residents: “Gentlemen, it is without any commitment, this gift is only to steal a smile from the children and support you, we are at your service, this gift is sent to you by Mr. 88, we are from the Jalisco Cartel, without any commitment, what we want is to help you and support you, we are here to take care of you, not to screw you over.”
“Thank the gentleman, please,” he asks the individual, to whom some children’s voices pay attention and thank him.
According to police sources, the videos circulating have as their setting the El Castaño neighborhood, about 500 meters from the central park of Macuspana.
However, the parties offered to the children and their parents would have taken place in several of the 17 municipalities of the state.
The localities where gifts would have been given are, among others, Cárdenas, Macuspana and Paraíso, whose mayors, Euclides Alejandro, Gaspar Díaz and Alfonso Baca, have not made statements about these events. No authority in the security area has taken a position on the issue.
Located 50 kilometers from Villahermosa, Macuspana is a municipality that was in the media of the country’s capital during the last six-year term for being the land of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Governed by Morena, that locality has become one of the most violent places in the state. In 2024, seven executions in total were officially recorded there; And in the first few days of this year there have already been five intentional homicides.
On Monday the 6th, a video was released on digital platforms in which an active police officer from that municipality confessed to belonging to a criminal group, as well as other relatives of his who also work in the corporation.
That same day, the body of the agent appeared with signs of torture and tied in a plastic bag along with three brooms. The uniformed man had been kidnapped by armed men early the previous Sunday morning in the El Jobo community.
