During the holiday period from December 14 to January 5, Durango far exceeded tourism expectations, reaching a total of 96 thousand visitors, which generated an economic spillover of more than 110 million pesos.

This significant increase in the arrival of tourists was confirmed by the Secretary of Tourism, Elisa Haro Ruiz, who highlighted the presence of national and international visitors in the state capital, the ecotourism centers and the Magical Towns of Durango.

State government boost

Elisa Haro Ruiz pointed out that these exceptional results are a reflection of the work and commitment of the governor of Durango, Esteban Villegas Villarreal, who has constantly promoted the development of the tourism sector in the state. “Durango is a destination in constant growth and we have demonstrated this with these very positive numbers,” added the state official, who also highlighted that the average hotel occupancy reached 60% in the state.

International and national visitors

During this holiday period, 43 thousand compatriots visited Durango, which represents a double increase compared to previous years.

In addition, the official mentioned that a significant part of the tourists were international, coming from countries such as Spain, France and South Korea, along with a notable presence of compatriots residing in states such as Illinois, California, Texas, Arizona and Georgia.

Regarding national tourism, Durango also experienced an increase in the influx of visitors from states such as Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo León and Mexico City.

Haro Ruiz mentioned that an increase in the occupancy of ecotourism centers was observed, especially during the New Year’s weekend, when some of these destinations reported full occupancy. “This success motivates us to continue working closely with tourism service providers,” she said.

Projections for 2025

This year, the Secretary of Tourism announced that promotional strategies are already being worked on to continue the growth of the sector. Among the most notable projects are the opening of the “Punto Cine Durango” Film Museum and the improvement of state signage, which will contribute to a better experience for tourists.

“Our goal is to continue offering unforgettable experiences to those who visit Durango, working with enthusiasm and commitment”
